The story of Pheasant shrine

The story of Pheasant shrine
 (The story of Kiji-Inari)
(雉子稲荷物語)

Once upon a time, a monk of Nensouji temple found a fox.
The fox had a pheasant.
The monk made a loud voice.
The fox was surprised, dropped the pheasant and ran away.
Villagers secretly cooked the pheasant and ate it.
The villagers encouraged the monk to eat the dishes.
The monk did not know it was the pheasant that the fox caught.
Therefore, the monk ate it.
The angry fox came to the temple every day and accused the monk who had eaten the pheasant.
The monk told the fox.
"Forgive me, because I'll build a shrine of pheasant and you."
After that, the fox no longer appears in the temple.
